Basic facts you should know about Acarbose and Acebutolol

ACARBOSE

Generic Drug Name
Acarbose

Type
Antihyperglycemic, antidiabetic

Prescribed
Non-insulin-dependent Diabetes mellitus

Common Side
Nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, stomach cramps, gas, bloating, feeling of fullness in stomach.
Possible Side
Liver problems.

Rare:

Lactic acidosis or severe low blood sugar.
Alternatives
Exercise, diet, herbs, nutritional supplements:

Chromium, vanadium, magnesium, zinc, selenium, B3 (niacin), Vit. E, C, Flax oil, turmeric, cinnamon, Reishi, Maitake, MSM, etc.

Avoid foods that raise blood sugar, eat foods that helps stabilize blood sugar levels. Regular exercise.

Interactions
Amylase and Charcoal reduces the effect of acarbose.

Charcoal and Antacids may lower the effect of acarbose.

May increase activity of antidiabetes drugs.

May decrease vitamin B12; consider supplementing.
Warnings
May lead to Liver inflammation. 

Do not use if you have: Cirrhosis, kidney disease, ulcers of colon, or any severe digestive disease.


ACEBUTOLOL

Acebutolol

Type
Beta-adrenergic blocking agent

Prescribed
High blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythm.

Common Side
Impotence, tiredness, weakness.

Possible Side
Nausea, vomiting, slow heart beat, heart failure, dizziness, disorientation, loss of memory, loss of hair, skin rashes, swelling of face, legs, ankles, feet; cramps, blurred vision, itching, chest pain, back pain, joint pain, intestinal pain, colitis, allergies, fever, sore throat, liver problems, diarrhea, lupus erythematosus, cold hands and feet, constipation, sweating.

Alternatives
Consider herbs: 

Hawthorn, Garlic, Mistletoe, etc.

Exercise, weight loss, drink lots of pure water, keep sodium (salt) level down. Reduce sugar, bad fats and cholesterol intake. Do not smoke and do not drink to much coffee. Consider supplementing 

Vit. E, C, B-group, Magnesium, and Lethicin. Keep homocysteine levels low.

Interactions
Combining with Alcohol may cause an excessive drop in blood pressure.

Combining with Digitalis or Phenytoin may lead to heart block.

Combining with Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs may decrease effect of the drug.

Combining with Tobacco may cause an irregular heartbeat.

May increase effect of anesthetics.

May lower blood sugar. 

Aspirin and Estrogen may reduce blood pressure lowering effect of acebutolol. Acebutolol counteracts thyroid hormone replacement. 

It should not be taken together or within 2 weeks of taking MAO-inhibitors. Acebutolol may interfere with the activity of antiasthmatic drugs. 

May reduce a number of minerals and vitamins like: calcium, magnesium, sodium, zinc, Vit. A.

Warnings
Could cause problems if you have: Heart block, heart failure, very slow heart rate, asthma, liver disease, kidney disease, problems with circulation.

May aggreavate liver, kidney, 

heart and circulation problems.

Caution in case of Asthma, Hay fever, consumption of Alcohol or MAO-inhibitors.
