Rivalry is known to exist among medical professional especially those in the hospital setting. Pharm. Ahmed I Yakasai, the President of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) outlined some of these factors leading to rivalry and  disharmony and in the health care sector. Some of the factors include:

Establishment of office of surgeon general to the president.

National health care commission establishment.

Problems emerging from teaching Hospital act.

Inability of other health care professionals to become the directors of federal health institutions.

Unavailability of post graduate schools for other health care professionals.

The Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas (NAPPSA) annually organise a conference and expositions. During his presentation he emphasised that synergy among health care professionals is a must in order to  effective manage a patient. Whenever healthcare professionals from different field work synergistically in order to manage a patient, the result is usually good.

He added that, health care professionals shouldn't work in isolation. He also sight an example with drugs which work synergistically when combined. Such as, how Aminoglycosides are able to penetrate cell wall of a bacteria after penicillins have damaged the cell wall.

Health care system is advancing compared to years back. This is achieved due to the increase  in knowledge of both the health practitioner and the patient. He added.

In addition, doctors, pharmacists, nurses were the only health care professionals known in the past. Also, the number of health specialities in 1927 were 14 compared to 103 in the year 2000. Not only the health specialities are evolving, but also subspecialties.
