Fact 1: Ethinylestradiol is used widely in birth control pills, often alongside progestins.

Fact 2: It may also be used as part of a wider menopausal hormone therapy plan to treat symptoms.

Fact 3: The drug can be administered orally, by transdermal patch and via a vaginal ring.

Fact 4: It was first introduced for medical use in 1943.

Fact 5: Mechanism of action -
# Ethinylestradiol works in conjunction with a progestin by suppressing LH/FSH release to prevent ovulation.
# Luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle
stimulating hormone (FSH) are responsible for ovulation and ovarian synthesis of estrogen and progesterone.

Fact 6: Avoid in pregnancy. Avoid in patients with breast cancer and in patients with an increased risk of developing VTE or cardiovascular

Fact 7: CYP3A4 inducers such as phenytoin, rifampin and fluconazole decrease its efficacy.
